Answering your Michigan State Football Questions and Emails…
Hondo, I must confess that I am really upset with Mark Dantonio. We can’t win at all costs and ignore right and wrong. I am embarrassed each time Jayru Campbell has another legal issue that he is mentioned with MSU. Dantonio needs to come out, announce he is pulling his offer and make a statement that MSU is better than that. Ken, Okemos
Well, before you go off taking a moral high ground that you are clearly ignorant of, let’s set aside your emotion and talk facts. 1) Mark Dantonio CAN’T by NCAA rule discuss any recruit until they sign their national letter of intent. In the case of Mr. Campbell’s 2015 class that won’t happen until February 2015. 2) Mr. Campbell is NOT an MSU commit and NOT coming here on a football scholarship to play for him.
Hondo, I know that you have not listed Jayru Campbell as a MSU football commit. I am wondering why others do and you don’t? Carrie
No idea Carrie. I have enough trouble taking care of my reporting that I can’t concentrate on others. Mr. Campbell is not coming to MSU to play football on scholarship for Mark Dantonio and that is all there is to say. No reason to dump on the kid, I wish him well. I reported for MONTHS that Chris Allen would not be returning to MSU, was ridiculed, and had several nasty things said. All that time I didn’t lose access to MSU (which I would have had I reported wrong information), and in fact I did two exclusive interviews with Izzo during that spell. As you know, our reporting was proven correct.
I have had several MSU coaches and players from the football program on my radio show including more this week, and Coach D will join us on Spartan Nation Radio for an exclusive later this summer. I am confident that they all know what I have reported and although none of them can discuss it, will still come on my shows. If I am reporting something not factual I would suggest to coach not to join me. He will later this summer.
Hondo, I loved the analysis of Connor Cook and his progression. I totally agree that he has really grown into something special. When I read your All Big Ten teams report  and you had Cook #1 over Braxton Miller I was a little shocked. I am a Spartan, but a little Kool Aid there? Mike in Bemidji, Minnesota
Not at all on the Kool Aid, but it is delicious. Just not how I see things. In fact, I have Miller as the third best QB in the conference. I love Braxton the young man. A great kid. I just think amazing stats are great, but look at how guys were trending as the year ended, how they did against better competition, and their overall game. OSU has great talent, but Miller can be underwhelming.
Go back with me to the B1G championship game. 4th quarter, 5:45 on the clock, and MSU up 27-24. 4th and 1 for the Buckeyes at the Spartans 39. Out of the gun with Hyde to his right Miler takes the snap and goes right, we all know what happened. There was no tight end slipping out for a pass, no wide out dragging across the middle. It was all run.
His own coach, on the biggest play of his OSU coaching career with monster BCS/National Title ramifications, didn’t have the confidence in him to have a receiving option for his “DUAL†threat QB. Don’t get me wrong; he is a great player. He is a super kid, but I don’t think he is the best QB in the Big Ten and Cook has the trophies to prove it. Trophies don’t lie and tape doesn’t lie.
Remember at Florida, Meyer loved to run Tebow with the run/jump pass option in short distance? Meyer loves the dual possibilities and did with all of his QBs. When he didn’t do it in that big of a situation, you saw the proof of the pudding is in the eating and Coach Meyer wanted none of that.
I think Cook and Christian Hackenberg from Penn State are two QB’s from the B1G I would want leading my team before Miller, but he still is a very good one.
Hi Hondo, Have you heard anything about whether Michigan State will plan to have an Open House to show off the completed North End Zone Project at Spartan Stadium this coming summer? Thanks, John Hansen
I have video of the last tour I took, CLICK HERE, and MSU super senior associate AD Greg Ianni has told me that the media will get another tour prior to the season. As far as one for the fans, I would contact the Spartan fund.
Hi Hondo, With Hoover and Reynolds graduating and Scarpinato retiring to become a doctor, I was a little surprised to see that Devyn Salmon and Noah Jones have been moved to the offensive line. Do you think this is a reflection more on the coaches having concern about OL depth or that they expect big things out of the incoming freshman DL class? Thanks, Nathan Husted
Well Nathan, there are big expectations on the youngsters. MSU had the best DL recruiting class in the nation, but experiments in the spring are not guarantees of the fall. I think the Spartans are happy where they are on all sides of the ball. Looking and experimenting is because of the Dantonio Doctrine of “Get your best 11 guys on the field.†I think you ask a great question, I just don’t agree with the premise. I don’t think it’s fear of the OL or an over reliance on the youngsters, it’s the Dantonio Doctrine.
There you go everyone. That is this week’s question and answer article. If you have a question never hesitate to email at SpartanNationMail@yahoo.com and put in the subject line FB Q/A
