Richardson Named Big Ten Player of the Week
EAST LANSING – Michigan State junior shortstop Ryan Richardson has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Monday, May 19. Richardson helped the Spartans go 3-1 last week by hitting .500 in the Spartansâ€™ four games. The native of Elgin, Illinois, stole four bases, scored five runs and had three RBIs in the sweep of Penn State.
Richardson went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the series opener at Penn State and capped the weekend with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and also scored four runs in the 7-6 win.
Richardson brings a season-long nine-game hitting streak into Wednesdayâ€™s Big Ten tournament opener vs. Illinois. On the season, he has a .285 batting average and 24 RBIs.
The conference honor is the first of Richardsonâ€™s career.
