Richardson Named Big Ten Player of the Week


EAST LANSING – Michigan State junior shortstop Ryan Richardson has been named Big Ten Player of the Week, it was announced by the conference on Monday, May 19. Richardson helped the Spartans go 3-1 last week by hitting .500 in the Spartans’ four games. The native of Elgin, Illinois, stole four bases, scored five runs and had three RBIs in the sweep of Penn State.


Richardson went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs in the series opener at Penn State and capped the weekend with a 3-for-4 performance at the plate and also scored four runs in the 7-6 win.


Richardson brings a season-long nine-game hitting streak into Wednesday’s Big Ten tournament opener vs. Illinois. On the season, he has a .285 batting average and 24 RBIs.


The conference honor is the first of Richardson’s career.
