First, I’m sorry.  I had written this on my lunch break and left it on my work computer without posting it.  Sorry about that.  I am not going to include action from Friday night as that will be in my column this upcoming Friday.  Otherwise, my column on Friday will be even shorter!

It’s on baby!  The districts are nearly over and the basketball is getting better every single day.  The finals are only two weeks away.  While there are a lot of games to be played, those games are winding down very fast.  Let’s take a look at the slate of action from the past week.

Coach Cottrell’s BLOWOUT of the Week

Traverse City Christian 76 Traverse City College Prep 11 (65 points)

In this Class D clash, it was getting out of hand at halftime.  TC Christian led 39-5 at the break.  Kris Crosby scored 20 points for TC Christian to lead all scorers.  Paul Bump scored 13 and tossed 10 assists.  David Bump scored 11.

High Score of the Week

Warren Cousino 99 Detroit East English 80 (179 points)

It was a high scoring affair for these two teams.  In the winning effort, Damon Hardges scored 24.  Davionne Fowler and Darnell Parhan both scored 17.  For East English, Marqywell Jackson led all players with 36 point scored.  Antoine Benford scored 22.

Low Score of the Week

Grand Rapids Covenant Christian 29 Wyoming Lee 28 (57 points)

Sometimes (what am I talking about?  ALWAYS), in a close game it comes down to making one more shot.  Unfortunately for Wyoming Lee, they were blanked in the second quarter and lost by one point.  They even held a 14-13 advantage at halftime.  With four seconds remaining in the game, down by three, Wyoming Lee’s Malik Meadows stole the ball and went for a layup.  He was fouled and it was called an intentional foul, so they got the ball as well.  Meadows hit both free throws, but Wyoming Lee couldn’t get a shot off after the inbounds pass and lost by one point.  Brandon Kaptein scored 13 points in the win.  Meadows scored 17 and tossed five assists, but was five of 12 from the charity stripe.

Jeff Cottrell is the amazing prep sports editor for Spartan Nation. He has been in that capacity for several years. His twice weekly column previewing that weeks biggest games and recapping those from the past week is both well read and respected. His contribution to the site has been amazing and he truly does a remarkable job!
