I was going to write that there was some good in this last of the four articles. It's a good thing to defend an athlete's right to a scholarship even if he never becomes the player recruiters thought he would be. But there is a limit to this "charity" that needs to be understood. A player has a right to a scholarship so long as he helps the team and is reasonably competent on the field. If he can't do either, he needs to get off the team. I saw Conway deliberately avoid contact with Gholston on a play in the 2012 spring game and Gholston consequently destroyed the running back and could have easily seriously injured him. If a player's medical issues or mental issues prevent him from making a proper effort to play his position, he needs to have the good sense to let go of his football dream.

As I write this I was informed that Hollis and Dantonio hired a good old boy former OSU coach as the OC. If this kind of thinking is what Hondo is defending, I take it all back. Dantonio is living in the past. He needs to "fade away" from MSU football before he pulls the program down for another decade of irelevance.
