It’s Friday so it’s time for another installment of the high school basketball column by yours truly.  Although the weather has taken a turn for the cold and snowy (yay, I love the snow and cold,) the action in the gym is red hot.  The district tournament begins on March 4th, so we are just over a month out still.  This is the time that conference championships are won and the hard work begins to pay off.  Let’s move straight into the games!

Low Score of the Week

Kimball Landmark Academy 30 Kimball New Life Christian 19 (49 points)

The game didn’t have a lot of scoring for either team.  Also, I couldn’t find stats for Kimball New Life Christian.  For Landmark Academy, Kyle Vancil led the scoring attack with 11 points while also grabbing three rebounds and stealing two balls.  David Pyche scored seven and also had three rebounds and two steals.

Coach Cottrell’s BLOWOUT of the Week

Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy 90 Detroit Plymouth Educational Center Prep 28 (62 points)

Couldn’t find information on this game for Detroit Plymouth Educational, but I did find stats for Harper Woods Chandler Park Academy.  Derrick Walton Jr, a future Wolverine, lit up DPE for 21 points, 20 assists, and eight rebounds.  Daruis Bean scored 18, tossed two assists, and grabbed five rebounds.

High Score of the Week/Century Club

Holland 110 Byron Center 75 (185 points)

The MHSAA’s website says this game was played last night.  I can’t find a record of it anywhere else, but, by the score, I bet it was an exciting game to watch!

Century Club

Kentwood Grand River Prep 101 Grand Rapids Wellspring 47 (148 points)

Well, I know that Luke Cersosimo scored 14 points and DonKiece George scored eight for Wellspring.

Century Club

Ypsilanti Willow Run 102 Detroit University Prep 61 (163 points)

Daquanta Brown scored a quarter of his team’s points in the win.  He scored 27 which included four three pointers.  Jermayne Nathan scored 17.  Anthony Davis Scored 14.  For Detroit University Prep, Erneste Bryant scored 31 of his team’s 61 points.

Future Spartan

I know I keep talking about her, but it’s hard to not talk about Tori Jankoska from Freeland.  This week, she had a huge game.  Midway through the third quarter in their 77-47 win over Frankenmuth, she got a pass from Paige Brown after a steal and went coast to coast to score her 1,957th career point.  That basket set a Saginaw County girls basketball scoring record.  On the game, she scored 34 points and grabbed 10 boards.

Jeff Cottrell is the amazing prep sports editor for Spartan Nation. He has been in that capacity for several years. His twice weekly column previewing that weeks biggest games and recapping those from the past week is both well read and respected. His contribution to the site has been amazing and he truly does a remarkable job!
